SMS is an abbreviation used for Short Messaging Service. SMS is used to send text messages to mobile phones. Message can use alphanumeric characters and can be no longer than 160 characters.

What does a business need to send SMS?

You will need an SMS enabled phone number to send SMS messages from your business phone. You can use a tollfree phone number or SMS enabled local phone number.

Are there SMS guidelines that my business needs to follow?

Yes. CTIA has laid down regulations to protect consumers and text messaging platform from fraudulent activity and other forms of system abuse.
